Return Values

The number of rows in a result set on success, or FALSE on failure.

Examples

Example 1453. mysql_num_rows() example

<?php

$link
= mysql_connect("localhost", "mysql_user", "mysql_password");
mysql_select_db("database", $link);

$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM table1", $link);
$num_rows = mysql_num_rows($result);

echo
"$num_rows Rows\n";

?>

Notes

Note:

If you use mysql_unbuffered_query(), mysql_num_rows() will not return the correct value until all the rows in the result set have been retrieved.
